Are you winging it? I’m not talking about your eyeliner, that looks great! I’m talking about your day, your week, your life! Do you have a daily routine or daily habits that set you up for success? If not, it’s time to start implementing some.
Why do you need a daily routine?
Because successful people have routines! Let’s take a page from their book and set ourselves up for success as well. Here are some specific reasons why you need a routine.
- Focus. Do you ever feel easily distracted? Once you have implemented a routine and begin to stick with it day in and day out, you’ll find that you get distracted less and less. You’re more focused on the things that need to get done, and you become used to the schedule of doing them. It becomes automatic, or second nature.
- Organization. Think of your day like a recipe for success. In a successful cake recipe, you know to preheat the oven before mixing the ingredients so that it’s ready to bake when you are. You know to mix the wet ingredients and the dry ingredients separately and then bring them together. Even the most amateur baker knows the frosting goes on top of the cake after it’s cooled.
If your day is a recipe, waking up on time and getting your day started with good habits is like preheating the oven. Having a balanced routine is your steps for blending the ingredients. Washing your face and putting down your phone before bed is the frosting on the top. Having a good routine will make sure your day is like the best cake ever made.
- Understanding. It will take some time for you to nail down the perfect routine, so don’t stress if it doesn’t work right away. Along the way, you’re going to learn what works best for you, and understand how to set yourself up for success in a way you’ve never done before. You’ll begin to replace bad habits with good ones, you’ll start to enjoy your new routine, and there will be no limit to what you can accomplish going forward.
Disclaimer: I know some of you love to be adventurous and spontaneous, and that’s beautiful! I do, too. You shouldn’t ever give up that spark in your life. I’m not saying you should only stick to a certain routine all the time – that could get boring! Still, keeping a routine can have serious benefits, make you feel like you have your life together, and improve overall productivity.
Start with a morning routine, and see where it takes you.
