I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I don’t love the term “self-improvement”. Here’s a bit of insight into why:
We’re told that we blossom as young adults. Society tells us that high school or college is when we become who we are meant to be.
But it’s simply not true.
Like plants, we are continuously going through growth seasons. We bloom for a few months or years, and then we go a little dormant as we prepare for a cycle of growth.
I personally believe that “self-improvement” is misleading and can send the wrong message to someone who is already too hard on themselves. I prefer the terms “personal growth” because it gives us all room to bloom and grow.
We don’t need to improve ourselves, but we may have areas in our life where we’d like to grow or develop so that we can achieve our goals. For example:
â—Ź There’s a promotion you’d love to apply for, but you might need some additional training or knowledge – that’s growth, not “improvement.”
● You want to buy a house, but budgeting has never really been a strength of yours, so you research some better budgeting techniques. Again, growth, not “improvement.”
● You want a long-term relationship, but keep dating people who don’t feel the same. This is an area to consider more in-depth to determine if some personal growth is needed to help you seek out more like-minded potential partners.
I hope that I am not the first person to tell you that you are perfect just the way you are. Your quirks, peculiarities, and unique personality all make you who you are, AKA exactly who you’re “supposed” to be! Still, sometimes we have to put in effort in specific areas of our lives to help us reach certain goals.
That’s why our April box was themed “In Bloom.” We wanted subscribers to have access to all the tools, resources, and tips that can help you grow as much as you want to, building the confidence you need to take your ultimate dreams, turn them into goals, and then begin taking solid steps toward achieving them.
Because, the real truth of the matter is that you can do ANYTHING or be ANYONE you want, as long as you believe in yourself and are willing to develop the skills and knowledge-base necessary to get you there.
If you didn’t get an In Bloom box, Passion & Growth would love to be your first step in that process. Now is a great time to sign up!
