Friendships can have a major impact on your health and well-being, but it’s not always easy to build or maintain friendships.
Having friends who care about you can have a huge impact on your mental health and overall happiness in life. It’s great to find your “tribe” of people to share thoughts with, care for, and support one another.
Girlfriends can also:
- Increase your sense of belonging and purpose
- Boost your happiness and reduce your stress
- Help you cope with traumas, such as divorce, serious illness, job loss or the death of a loved one.
Healthy friendships include women in your life who want to build you up and see you succeed. Friendships should not make you feel bad about yourself or make you feel like you can’t be your true self. Friends love you for who you are. There will be times that you have to end a friendship because it is no longer serving you and that is ok.
As you get older, quality becomes so much important than quantity. One good friend outweighs 100 superficial friends. Don’t get caught up in comparing your circle now to what it was in college. It’s completely normal for your circle to shrink!
Here’s a couple tips for maintaining healthy friendships while still social distancing:
- Video chat- Host a game night, virtual happy hour, lunch break or just a 5 min gossip session.
- Send some happy mail. Everyone loves receiving something in the mail that isn’t a bill, amiright?
Maintaining good friendships takes time and effort. However, the fun and enjoyment friendships can provide, make the effort worthwhile.
